Thelma Björk graduated from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2005. She subsequently studied at École Lesage in Paris, where she specialized in embroidery. She is also a trained and active yoga and meditation instructor.
This background is at the core of Thelma Björk’s work. She uses handicraft as a form of expression and artistic creation. She draws inspiration from her foremothers as well as personal memories. Her practice is rooted in flow and sensory experience through craftsmanship and meditation, building on traditional handicraft methods while connecting the process to the mindfulness movement of the 21st century.
Embroidery is a slow process that requires ingenuity and precision, which in turn fosters peace of mind and empowerment. With sustainability as guiding principle, Thelma Björk will create new experiences around craftsmanship and functional objects during the residency.
